Media Campaign for Women Groups

Women Empowerment Organization in cooperation with Global Fund for Women has launched a media campaign for 2007. This campaign focuses primarily on Kurdistan and Iraqi constitution as well as the role that women can play in manipulating media for their own causes and works. The first activity of this campaign was holding a meeting in Plaza hotel in Erbil in 25/1/2007. The meeting was attended by the head of women committee in Kurdistan parliament, culture minister, civil society minister, some Erbil well-known figures, dignitaries, representatives of CSOs and media such as Zagros TV, Kurdistan TV, Al-Iraqia TV, Al-Sharqia TV, Al-Hurra TV, and Sabah Newspaper.

Objectives:
·        To acquaint women groups with the role of media and the significance of their participations.
·        To advocate for women rights in the constitutional drafts.

Before this meeting, WEO had held 10 trainings with the women groups. In these trainings, the media personnel of the women groups were attending and they were given a full course about how to use media in their own career.
